Konstantinos V. Markou factory in Livadia facilitates a quality test laboratory for cotton and its by-products. It is equipped with an HVI USTER 900 AUTO and an AFIS USTER NEPCLASS for the lint cotton tests, a LOVIBOND TINTOMETER MODEL F (BS 684) which measures cottonseed oil’s colour, and a NIR INFRAMATIC 8611 (PERTEN) which measures grains’ percentage in protein.
Apart from the electronic equipment, our laboratory facilitates all necessary tools and other test equipment necessary for the chemical analysis and tests of our products.
More specifically, the Uster 900 Auto system measures ginned cotton’s physical characteristics defined by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in its cotton marketing system. The Uster 900 measures cotton’s physical characteristics defined by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in its cotton marketing program, namely the fiber length, strength, length uniformity, elongation, micronaire, colour and trash.
The AFIS individualises the fibers, separating them from the dust and the trash and pass them through a sensor that counts the neps and the SCN (Seed Coat Neps).
The HVI is calibrated daily by using cotton samples and tiles according to USDA’s requirements. The data produced is grouped into uniformed, marketed lots. Reference samples are kept for customer cross-checking upon request.
Our laboratory participates in two round tests organized; that of the Institute of Bremen and the ICAC. The ICAC Round Tests’ results place us among the 10 best laboratories in the world, since 2007.
